I love you like craaazzzzzy..

You and Me - Penny and The Quarters

I knew what I was getting myself into when I sat down to watch this film, prewarned that its not for the faint hearted.

Cutting across different time periods of this love story, it shows the highs and lows before the final demise of the marriage between two young people. Never what I want to see from a love story, but hard hitting and emotive with brilliant efforts from both Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. Their raw and intimate performances are helped by the up close shots and contrasting acting styles. Gosling is far more open and shows what he is thinking, where as Williams internalises her feelings making her revelations of her past and of her thoughts all more shocking when revealed to the audience.

Two moments where we flashback to their growing relationship and courtship, we see the innocence of their youth and delightful break from the dark themes of the film. Dean sings to Cindy on the street as she dances and you see their attraction and interest in one another grow as you the audience attach to them. This feeling is repeated when he chooses "their song" with his puffy black eyes following a beating in the honour of Cindy.

You Always Hurt The One You Love - Performed by Ryan Gosling

You are warmed by Deans childlike and loving character, especially with his relationship to his daughter and resent Cindy and her coldness towards him, however it seems they both have their issues and inabilities to deal with their troubled pasts which only affects their future together.

A beautiful and intense portrail of a breakup that leaves you wrecked and questioning why?
